Community Café Assistant

Role Summary

We are working in partnership with St Albans Community Centre and they require a Community Café volunteer assistant to support in their community café which caters for adults 50+.

Main activities/tasks

  • Talk and engage with clients to reduce social isolation.
  • Take food orders from clients and pass to the kitchen.
  • To assist in serving food to clients at the community cafe.
  • To make refreshments for clients.
  • To receive cash payments for food served and use café till.
  • Help with various activities to include bingo, wordsearches and gentle exercise.

Relevant experience/skills

To be passionate about working with older people in the community. This person needs to have good interpersonal skills and be confident when dealing with people. They need to be good motivators of individuals and support clients to attend St Albans services whilst promoting social inclusion and interaction between users of the centre, staff, and volunteers.

Training and support

We have an induction process, during which we give volunteers the information we believe they need to enjoy their time with us. The Community Navigator will give volunteers any specific information they need before starting. Volunteers will have supervision with the Community Navigator to allow them to give and receive feedback about their work. They are encouraged to bring up any concerns or questions as soon as they arise and make an input into the overall development of our Centre.

Availability

Monday – Friday 10.30 – 14.30. A routine can be established and agreed with the Community Navigator as times and days can be flexible to work around other commitments.

A DBS certificate is required.
