Grounds Maintenance

Role Summary

We are working in partnership with St Albans Community Centre, and they require a grounds maintenance volunteer to support with the upkeep of the grounds.

Main activities/tasks

  • The ability to undertake work in all weather conditions
  • Safe use of garden tools and other machinery/equipment
  • Team working
  • Mow lawns
  • Trim and edge around walks, flower beds, and walls
  • Landscape by planting flowers, grass, shrubs and bushes
  • Sweep walkways of debris
  • Trim shrubs and pull weeds
  • Water plants and grass as needed during summer months
  • Pick litter on the grounds
  • Other tasks as assigned

Relevant experience/skills

To be passionate about working outdoors, to create a good impression for those that work, visit and utilise the Centre. To be enthusiastic and proactive in completing duties to ensure the upkeep of the grounds.

Training and support

We have an induction process, during which we give volunteers the information we believe they need to enjoy their time with us. The Community Navigator will give volunteers any specific information they need before starting. Volunteers will have supervision with the Community Navigator to allow them to give and receive feedback about their work. They are encouraged to bring up any concerns or questions as soon as they arise and make an input into the overall development of our Centre.


Any day or time during the week between the hours of Monday – Friday 09:00 – 16:00. A routine can be established and agreed with the Community Navigator as times and days can be flexible.
