Kitchen Assistant

Role Summary

We are working in partnership with St Albans Community Centre and they require a Volunteer Kitchen Assistant to support in the community café kitchen.

Main activities/tasks

  • Ensure the food preparation area are clean and hygienic.
  • Preparation of hot and cold food.
  • Observing the kitchen rules and regulations regarding health and safety/food hygiene.
  • Washing utensils and dishes and making sure they are clean.
  • Washing, peeling, and chopping foodstuffs and helping in the preparation of meals
  • Disposing of rubbish
  • Cleaning the equipment used, floors and other kitchen areas.

Relevant experience/skills

To be passionate about working with vulnerable people in the community. Promote social inclusion and interaction between users of the centre, staff, and volunteers.

Training and support

We have an induction process, during which we give volunteers the information we believe they need to enjoy their time with us. The Community Navigator will give volunteers any specific information they need before starting. Volunteers will have supervision with the Community Navigator to allow them to give and receive feedback about their work. They are encouraged to bring up any concerns or questions as soon as they arise and make an input into the overall development of our Centre.


Monday – Friday 09:00 – 13.30. A routine can be established and agreed with the Community Navigator as times and days can be flexible to work around other commitments.

Based at St Albans Community Centre, St Albans Road, Smethwick, B67 7NL.

A DBS certificate is required.
