Green Schools Project Student Volunteering Opportunity

Enthusiastic volunteers required to help deliver Green Schools Project and support a school Eco-Team in their mission to help them go green.

Organisation Information

Green Schools Project supports young people to establish Eco-Teams and lead projects that tackle climate change and improve their local and wider environment, such as energy saving and encouraging walking to school, reducing plastic usage and helping to inspire their community to go green. It involves them in social action which builds their leadership, communication and teamwork skills as well as their confidence, resilience and wellbeing.

This year, Wates has funded the Eco-Team programme, partnering with Green Schools Project to establish Eco-Teams in schools throughout the UK. This would be a great opportunity for a volunteer to work alongside Wates, learn about sustainable construction
and positively impact their local communities.

Your Tasks

● Run or support with running Eco-Team meetings at schools once a week using the Green Schools Project resources to support pupils to run their environmental projects.
● Support the school coordinator in promoting student leadership of the environmental projects that the school is carrying out.
● Motivate and inspire the Eco-Team members to change the behaviour of staff and pupils at their school and take this home into their community.
● Carry out impact measurement for Green Schools Project at the participating school.

What we can offer you

● An opportunity to work with an award winning social enterprise that is transforming the way young people engage with environmental issues.
● As this program is funded by Wates, you will also have the opportunity to learn more about careers in sustainable construction and work alongside the Wates Group.
● Build your leadership and communication skills through engagement with young people.
● Insight into working in schools and with young people.
● Training and support at every step to ensure that you are confident in what you are delivering.
● Travel expenses paid for public transport to and from the school.
● Our eternal gratitude!

Time commitment and working arrangement

● Attendance at a training session (in person/virtually) before starting to work with schools.
● School visits once a week - 45 min/1 hour sessions.
