The Dorothy Parkes Centre has been recognised for its impact in the local area at the Smethwick Community Awards.

We were crowned Outstanding Smethwick Community Organisation 2019 Award winners at the prestigious event held at Jewels Conference Suite in Rolfe Street. The Awards, hosted by Sandwell Community Hubs are commissioned by Sandwell Council, supported by local businesses and are a celebration of voluntary contribution, hidden talents, success, and achievements of people and organisations living and working in their respective towns.

There were seven awards categories and the general public were invited to make their nominations in the weeks leading up to the awards evening. All nominations were then judged and marked accordingly by an independent panel involving local councillors. Our Centre came out on top in what was in a tough category with no less than 15 organisations nominated for the award.

Sandwell Community Hubs CEO Anam Choudury was part of the organising committee behind the event, alongside Sandwell Council, and understood why the independent panel gave the honour to the Dorothy Parkes Centre.

"The Dorothy Parkes Centre is well deserving of being the Winner of the Outstanding Community Organisation Award 2019.

"The panel members scored the organisation the highest for the significant progress they have made in making a real difference to the local Smethwick community. Well done!" Anam explained.

"It's fantastic to get the recognition for the work that our staff and volunteers put in each week. I am extremely proud of them all and we are delighted for everybody associated with our Centre" said Robert Bruce, Chief Executive at Dorothy Parkes Centre.

"We have come a long way in a short space of time and we hope that this award will help increase the profile of our Centre and enable us to reach more people. We want to give back to the community and really make a difference to the people of Smethwick."

"I don't think our Centre has ever been nominated for an award, never mind win one, so we are all absolutely delighted. It was an honour to attend the Awards and be surrounded by so many inspirational people and organisations who all make such a positive impact in Smethwick. Everybody there were winners!"
