Volunteer Youth Worker

Role Summary

The Dorothy Parkes Centre is a vibrant charity providing a wide range of services to the local diverse community. We are looking for volunteer youth workers to support the delivery of a high-quality Youth Club at our Centre.

Main Activities/Tasks

Teamwork - Support our Senior Youth Worker and Youth Workers to deliver a high-quality Youth Club which will enable our youth club members to achieve key outcomes.  Supporting Young People - Safeguarding the welfare of our youth club members and creating a safe, fun, creative learning environment.

Ensure that the facilities and equipment are safe and set up/put away correctly

  • Engage with the young people and develop positive working relationships with them
  • Attend regular training and development opportunities to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding, health and safety and local policy developments
  • Report any safeguarding concerns you may have about a member to the Senior Youth Worker particularly where this may indicate bullying/self harm/abuse
  • Assist in reporting information in any accident/incident/near-miss investigation in line with the Health & Safety and/or Safeguarding Policy
  • Understand and adhere to the centre’s policies and procedures
  • Attend and participate in any off-site trips/events/residential activities
  • Undertake any other duties and organisational objectives following consultation with Senior Youth Worker

Relevant experience/skills

Previous experience and or qualification in youth work specifically 11 – 18 year olds. The ability to build constructive relationships with young people in groups and on an individual basis. The ability to work as part of a team & have effective verbal & written communication skills.

Training and support

We have an induction process, during which we give volunteers the information we believe they need to enjoy their time with us. The Community Navigator will give volunteers any specific information they need about the role prior to starting. Volunteers will have supervisions with the Community Navigator to allow them to give and receive feedback about their role. They are also encouraged to bring up any concerns or questions as soon as they arise and make an input into the overall development of our Centre.


Tuesday evenings between 4.30pm – 9pm, school holidays and occasional weekends.
