Thanks to funding from Active Black Country and Sport England we are delighted to be able to offer further sessions of our healthy lifestyle project at Dorothy Parkes Centre.

Your Health Matters is a FREE course providing exercise classes and nutritional talks. Sessions will take place on a Monday 6.45pm - 8.45pm and a Thursday 11.30am - 1.30pm. You can select a primary session and if space allows you can attend the other session.

Your Health Matters aims to support people in losing weight, increasing levels of physical activity, and improving mental and social wellbeing. This FREE project is open to members of the local community aged 16+. It will also include the great outdoors with local walks and visits to our Community Allotment Plot incorporated into the project. It will be facilitated by a local resident who is fully qualified and has over ten years’ experience in delivering healthy lifestyle initiatives.

The project will provide a combination of physical activity and information and advice regarding healthy lifestyles such as food and nutrition, cooking techniques, balanced diets and using home grown produce. Physical activity will be based on activity which participants can replicate at home, in the garden, or in the local park.

We hope that the project will encourage people to begin and maintain a healthy lifestyle, bring people out of their comfort zone, and break down barriers. We will work as a group, but we intend to offer support to them as individuals as well, as everybody is different. We hope that by providing a group setting, in a local community venue, that friendships will be made and there will be evidence of peer on peer support and encouragement.

The project aims to engage with members of the local community who want to embrace a healthy lifestyle. This is regardless of gender, ethnicity, sexuality, or religion. The group approach aims to bring together members of the local community in a relaxed setting where they can talk to a leader about nutritional and exercise related topics instead of just reading information. This helps to promote a good mental health as well as a good community spirit. This is essential after the impact of COVID and lockdowns which have knocked a lot of people’s trust and confidence.

Spaces are limited and are available on a first come first served basis. You can register by visiting the Centre and completing the paperwork or you can express your interest in attending by completing an Enquiry Form
