Our volunteers come from a range of backgrounds and bring a variety of skills and experiences to the service.
People choose to volunteer for a number of reasons, for some volunteering can be a route to employment or a means of learning new skills to change career. Volunteering for others means giving something back to the local community and making a difference in someone’s life. It may also be a way to reduce social isolation, make new friends and build lifetime friendships.
Volunteering can be one of the most rewarding investments you will ever make.
Whatever your motivation, we appreciate your contribution as a volunteer and will provide access to all relevant training, support and advice from your line manager and the volunteer community navigator. Whether you have a little or lots of time to give, there should be a volunteering opportunity available to help you make a difference.
Benefits of volunteering:
But most importantly, it is rewarding and fun!

I've been volunteering for over 18 months and I love it. I first came to the centre to a few functions and looking at the timetable I noticed there was an opportunity for a toddler group and so I volunteered to run 'Tots and Toddlers Story Time'. I get a huge sense of wellbeing and belonging from volunteering and feel that the the staff, other volunteers and users of the centre are like my extended family. The main reason I enjoy volunteering is that I feel like I am giving something back to the community.

I have been volunteering at the centre for nearly 2 years now. I first started because I was signing on and the Job Centre advised me to do some volunteering to gain new skills - and with the help of the centre I went on to get a cleaning job at nursery linked with the centre. I really enjoy my time volunteering as I love meeting new people and helping with a variety of different things.

I have been volunteering at the centre for almost 4 years. I used to come to the Centre for various classes and events and volunteered to buff the new hall floors and it has gone on from there. The reason I volunteer is because I want to give something back to the Centre for everything they have done for me and it's the best thing I have ever done!! If anyone wants to volunteer the really should do it because you get a lot from it!

I have been volunteering at the Centre for about 5 years now. I was doing a bit of work somewhere local but was having a bit of trouble so moved to the centre and have been there ever since. I love the interaction with all the people who come to the centre!

I started volunteering about 3 years ago. I’m a big admirer of the Centre manager – Rob Bruce, and I support Community groups with funding applications and a mutual friend of ours asked if I would get involved, so we met and here I am. I enjoy meeting the great people who use the Centre and feel it has a big positive influence on the local community. I admire that it is forever growing and reaching into the heart of local people.
