In July 2021, the Dorothy Parkes Centre was successful in a funding application for £20,000 from the Millenium Point Trust. The funding will allow us to work in partnership with Femtinos and deliver Science Shows over a twelve-month period during the school holidays.

We want to engage with primary school-aged children and parents who would not normally participate in such high-level learning and engagement. The shows will be designed to involve actual Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) learning, not just a “wow” demonstration, but interactive opportunities and engagement for the families to explore science in a fun way, getting them to realise the vast scope of STEM beyond just the classroom.

So far, we have delivered a Halloween themed show during October half term and a virtual Christmas themed show during the Christmas holidays.

Have a look at what we got up to at Halloween here:

The next show will be a Valentines theme for the February half term and this is already fully booked.

If you haven’t yet managed to book a place, don’t worry, we have more shows planned: two at Easter, one at Whitsun, and two in the summer holidays.  Keep an eye on our website for booking details.
