On Saturday 3rd June, Shakespeare's First Book came to Smethwick for the FIRST TIME EVER!

As part of the University of Birmingham and Birmingham City Council’s Everything to Everybody project, the city’s copy of William Shakespeare’s First Folio - the original printed collection of his plays – came to Smethwick!

The event was opened by the Mayor of Sandwell, Councillor Bill Gavan and Deputy Lieutenant, Gurpreet Bhatia. Visitors enjoyed a range of Shakespearean themed activities organised by Bearwood Community Hub such as making Midsummer Night's Dream fairy headdress, spinning Shakespearean insults, creating sonnets with our bard in residence Kurly McGeachie, catching the one-man show of King Lear and discovering more about the history of the folio at the afternoon lecture.

The event was a huge success and a lot of this was down to all of the amazing people who volunteered to help out at the event, as always, we couldn't have done it without you!
