Our community allotment plot is now home to a fantastic new water feature which we hope will attract frogs, toads and newts.

Paul, Usha, and our volunteers have all worked incredibly hard over the winter period and the pond was a job they wanted to complete before the Nature Buddies sessions resumed on 9th March.

The pond is protected by a safety net and is fenced off to reduce the risk of young children entering the area but is already a wonderful sight and a great addition to the plot.

The children in the Nature Buddies class were certainly excited by the new feature, especially when we had some special guests try it out!

The work was funded by a combination of funders including the West Midlands Combined Authority Community Green Grants, and the Enfinium Community Fund.

There are many benefits the pond will bring and as we go through Spring the pond will start to blossom. Flowers will emerge and life will start to flourish around the plants and pond water. The body of water will become a hive of activity; from sights, smells, and sounds. The pond will also provide wider benefits for our allotment including:

  • Water storage during the hot weather
  • Attracting wildlife
  • Providing more sunshine for plants
  • Reduced environmental stress
  • Relaxation
