Bert

Scarecrow

When did you start at Dorothy Parkes?

Well I don’t rightly know as we scarecrows don’t have what you humans call brains and therefore time is a difficult concept? I have been told by some visitors that I was modelled on their CEO – Rob Bruce, whatever that means!

What do you enjoy most about your role at Dorothy Parkes allotment?

Well, I’m what you humans call a ‘key worker’ and therefore have to be at my post all of the time and have never found the time to go down to visit the centre

What one thing would you change at Dorothy Parkes allotments?

I would like to get nearer to Dotty the new female scarecrow that turned up here a few weeks ago. She looks a bit of alright?

What are your hobbies?

Hobbies, I don’t have time for hobbies! Keeping them pesky birds away from the vegetables is a 24/7 occupation.

What is your favourite film?

I’m a massive fan of Worzel Gummidge, he is my hero! He was the first scarecrow that the Crowman made and every other scarecrow wants to be like him. He can even change his head to suit the mood he is in!

What is your favourite food?

I likes a cup O’ tea and a slice O’ cake!

What is your favourite holiday destination?

Scatterbrook farm which I think is a long way away from here and it is where Worzel was born.

What is your favourite book?

I cannot read I’m afraid but I think it is important for everyone to be able to do so. If I gets to know that Dotty, maybe she will teach me?

What makes you laugh?

The Crowman always has a joke or two to tell me when we meet up but I can never remember them?

Tell us something interesting about yourself?

When I was younger I came first in a George Clooney scarecrow look-a-like competition.
